The Values We Embrace

Our guiding values are a very real and visible part of our culture and how we do business. The ethical standards represented in these values are expected from employees and subcontractors with whom we work. Our guiding values are the foundation of our daily business practices:

• Show Respect for the environment, employees, sub-contractors, and customers in all our business dealings, respect for those in need by volunteering, and respect for ourselves through balance of work and play.
• Conduct business with Integrity, to be fair, honest, affordable, yet profitable.
• Take Responsibility for our actions, be accountable for our work, do what has been promised, provide fair and reasonable bids, and adhere to our schedules.
• Provide workmanship of the highest Quality with attention to detail, to do the job correctly without cutting corners.
• Focus on Sustainability at every level of business and in our daily lives, and educate others on how their choices may impact future generations.
• Pursue and support Innovation everyday by keeping abreast of the latest sustainable products and technologies, and in continuing education.

We believe in and stand behind our work. Every project is backed by a one-year warranty. Our clients expect the best from us and we expect the best from ourselves. Quality, communication and a promise to stand behind our work — everything you need to reach your project’s full potential.

Brad Gunn's Bio

Brad enjoys over thirty years experience as a remodel carpenter, home builder, and project manager. As a native to the Pacific Northwest, Brad began as an apprentice carpenter. With experience this position soon expanded to lead carpenter, and then project foreman, a position held for six years before accepting a position as Electronic Technician/Project Manager at an aviation company. Brad was instrumental in growing the company from eleven persons, to sixty-six when he left in 2000.

In 1992 Brad and his wife Sharon Cannizzo acted as General Contractors during construction of their passive solar-designed house on Cougar Mountain near Seattle. During this time he became familiar with the concept of a house as a system, and integrated green building techniques well before the sustainable building movement was established. With a 600 sq ft addition added in 2001 the house was certified to a 3-star Built Green™ level, the highest at that time. Please see the Our Home page.

In 2006 Brad decided to return to his love of construction and accepted The Reuse People's Regional Manager’s position for Washington State and supported deconstruction. A year later Brad started Simply Sustainable, LLC.

Brad possesses outstanding communication skills and clients appreciate his ability to involve owners, designers and sub-contractors in the successful completion of construction projects, and his sincerity and pride of workmanship.

Sharon Cannizzo's Bio

Sharon brings twenty years experience in contracts and project management to Simply Sustainable. She earned her degree in Business Administration and Management, and while it is an asset with the administrative side of the business, she is just as happy working side-by-side with Brad.

In 2002 Sharon left the corporate world to follow her heart in sustainable building. She volunteered at the Pollution Prevention Resource Center where she assisted in research for a database for environmentally preferable products. She later researched and applied for grants in support of the NW Eco-Building Guild's Green Roof project. In 2003 she accepted a position as a Resource Conservation Specialist with the City of Issaquah, and assisted in the construction of the Pickering Farm Community Teaching Garden, an educational garden dedicated to teaching the community about sustainable gardening practices and performing outreach.

In 2007 Sharon attended the National Sustainable Building Advisors Program and became certified as a Sustainable Building Advisor. During this time she also attended the American Lung Association of Washington's Master Home Environmentalist training and performed healthy home assessments in the community. In 2008 Sharon and Brad sold their sustainable home in the Seattle area and downsized and relocated to Portland. They simplified their lives, reduced their carbon footprint, and are working to find the balance between work and play. Most recently, Sharon became a LEED accredited professional with a goal of assisting commercial buildings in becoming LEED certified.

Sharon possesses strong organization and documentation skills and clients appreciate her ability to keep projects on schedule, change orders well documented, and projects within budget.
